Railey Chen
Hello! My name is Railey Chen. I am a junior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, taking AP Calculus BC. I like math because it is one of the harder subjects where you have to sit down and think through each step. It helps to improve a student’s focus and challenges them to step out of their comfort zone. One of the most rewarding parts of solving a math problem is the moment of understanding, whether it comes from struggling to find the right answer or learning from the solution. At SBMC, I teach elementary school levels. I joined SBMC when I was in 6th grade and continued my sessions over the pandemic, gaining valuable quick tips and tricks for solving various math problems. As a mentor, I hope to inspire others to pursue math not only as a subject but as a way of thinking.

What's up everyone? My name is Kevin Han. I'm a 10th grader at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and am taking AP Calc BC. I like math because in most complex math problems, there is usually a clever shortcut that you might have never been able to think of. It just blows my mind that there is still more math to learn after reading through so many solutions on a single problem. I teach middle school levels at SBMC. I have participated in many math competitions, including the AMC 8, AMC 10, Mathcounts State, and AIME. I joined SBMC when I was in 3rd grade and had no clue about the world of competition math. SBMC introduced me to a whole new way of thinking about math. I want to share all the different concepts I've learned over the years with SBMC. Can't wait to mentor y'all.

Aaron Luo
Hi, my name is Aaron Luo. I will be a freshman at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in the coming school year, taking Multivariable Calculus. I like math because it will only have one answer, but can still be solved with multiple methods. Participating in the AMC and MATHCOUNTS competitions has enhanced my understanding of math by delving into more complex areas of simple topics. When preparing for these competitions, you learn things that you don’t learn in a typical classroom. You learn theorems, proofs, but you also learn to think creatively to solve problems. It can become more predictable as time goes on because many of the same methods are used to solve a wide range of problems. I teach both elementary and middle school levels at SBMC, and I enjoy teaching at SBMC because it’s cool to see students figure out how to solve difficult problems. I enjoy playing tennis and piano when I’m not doing math. This will be my second year teaching, and look forward to mentoring all of you this year!
